Editing

A good edit can make the difference between having an okay story and having a story the reader can't put down. Let's face it--after reading our manuscripts a dozen or more times, we lose sight of what's there. We can't see the problems that are glaring to anyone else. That is where a good editor comes in.

Karen Hoover is the editor for Tin Bird Publications and has trained under the brilliant Tristi Pinkston in fixing her own books, as well as several other authors who have given her insight into the writing process that makes her approach unique. With Karen doing your edits, you get more than a critique--you get lessons in writing and comments that show you what you're doing right as well as what needs improving. Karen specializes in full critiques, containing flow, characterization, plot, and sensory details, as well as repetitive words, grammar, and spelling.

Cost: The first chapter is free. This gives you a chance to see if your style works with Karen's, and hers with you. It also gives you a chance to fix things ahead of time so that you are more likely to get the lower rate for your edit, which is $1.00 to $2.00 per page, depending on how much needs to be changed.
